British writer Francis Spufford has always been known for his non fiction titles, before making a change of direction with his debut novel Golden Hill, released in paperback October 6.

Described as 'ingenious' by the Guardian and 'dazzlingly written' by The Sunday Times, Golden Hill follows Mr Smith, a young man from London who arrives in New York in 1746 with a bill of £1000 that must be paid. With well reviewed titles such as Red Plenty and Unapologetic under his belt, Spufford has already proven himself as a mighty writer of non fiction; now Golden Hill demonstrates that he's a force to be reckoned with in the fiction world as well.
